Evaluation of temperature distribution for bone drilling considering aging factor

Bone drilling is a routine operation in surgeries, such as neurosurgery and orthopedics. However, the excessive temperature may cause severe thermal damage to bone tissue. Therefore, determination of tissue can reduce harm caused by damage. A time-varying field simulation model was set up ABAQUS software this paper, based on Johnson-Cook model. Then it validated with experiments cortical fresh bovine shaft femur. The relative error between experimental values theoretical within 7.67% showed good consistency. Furthermore, aging factor also considered evaluate drilling. results that near bone-drill area increased significantly. decreases sharply radial distance exhibits hysteresis lag axial distribution. mainly affects peak temperature. tends increase age. elderly (70y) 6.8% higher than young (20y), indicating more prone special attention should be paid control
